Hand Woven Rustic Sheep Wool Rug
Hand Woven Rustic Sheep Wool Rug
The wool used to create this rug was grown by Daisy-Matilda and Penelope, three of the sheep who live on our farm.
It was then shorn & “ lightly” processed. It’s among the first rugs produced here on Wild Daisy Homestead.
To create this off white rug, the wool was woven around smooth wooden pegs approx 6 inches long, then slid down the jute twine AKA the warp until the desired size was generated.
The rug was then removed from the loom and the ends were tied securely and clipped to equal lengths. This rug measures 23 inches wide X 26 inches long.
All materials used in this rug are made from 100% natural fibers. Jute twine is the product used for the warp, helping to create an old time, yet modern country feel. 100% sheep wool is used for the woven fibers.
Because this wool was only “ lightly processed, there is still a slight presence of lanolin creating a barrier between moisture and possible stains from spills, you may find minuscule bits of vegetation consumed by the sheep during the growing season adding a charming, unique and minimalist, characteristic to it.
After rug is placed on your floor, the more you walk on it, the more the fibers will mesh and cling together over time. Because of the type of weave used, this rug is double sided, meaning it can be flipped over. Gently shake every now and then to refresh the appearance and dislodge any attracted dust and débris.
HAND WASH with spot cleaning only if needed, lying flat to dry. NEVER machine wash.
If carefully cared for your new wool rug should last for years to come, providing a soft comfortable and warm addition to your flooring area.
The final step on this rug was the placing of the 100% leather tag on the corner. It was then wrapped and secured inside of the paper covering ready for shipping.
