Is It Really " The Little Things" That Make A Difference Or Should We Just Give Up?
Share
So here we are, almost mid May already. Time to start getting serious about planting. This is the moment to plan out where you're going to plant and what you're going to plant there.
I planted the sugar snap peas and carrots a couple weeks back, and planted my first round of corn this afternoon. I can hardly wait to pull off a big juicy cob off the corn stalk and smoother it in butter, salt and pepper. I can almost taste it right now. I have never grown corn before. This could get interesting.
I have lots of flowers and herbs almost ready for transferring outside. Along with those I have luffa plants that are growing at an alarming rate. Those are always so fun to nurture and harvest... I can hardly wait to use one in the shower or bathtub.
It' exciting to see the yard coming back to life as the trees begin to shoot out their altering shades of green with the flowering fruit buds starting to show growth as well.
The warm sun beating down on my face and arms reminds me of the healthy life we all strive for but seriously lack during the cold winter months.
I find it so intriguing that I can stand outside in the middle of winter with snow waist deep and nothing but a white, icey, frozen tundra everywhere I look, thinking to myself how in the world will we ever see green grasses and trees again?
It's mind boggling the changes that can happen to this earth in the blink of an eye, or in a matter of just a few weeks. All because the earth shifts just a little bit.
Dead and cold everything in hibernation, to green and blooming. Isn't it just miraculous?
I suppose that is the great lesson old Mother Earth is teaching us....
" It's The Little Things"
A small shift in our lives can make a whole world of difference. A tiny little adjustment can change the entire circumstance in which we find ourselves tomorrow. All we have to do is look around and see the signs telling us " It's Time For A New Season In Our Lives."
Making the decision to shift things around is the easy part. Just Make that choice.
HOWEVER, putting that choice and decision into action? Well, that is a whole different pot of dirt to start digging in.
Through the many years of heart aches and depressions I've suffered, there is one thing that I have learned....... one tiny step at a time is the key.
I have to constantly remind myself ........ "It's The Little Things"
Make a timeline... put a picture of your end goal on the far side and a picture of you right at the beginning of your visual. This is a form of a vision board only different.
So now we need to start writing, on a seperate piece of paper the numbers 1-10......OR 1-100 if need be. There's no hurry right now as long as there is a number one on there, you've got something to work with.
What is the first thing you would need to do to start walking towards that end result that seems so unattainable?
For me it was some serious prayer and pleading for help to know what to do to get started. So, thats what I did. I gave prayer my very best effort with direct and clear intentions, focusing and being sincere with my desires. I also included what I was grateful for. Thanking the Great Spirit can only lift you higher.
By the time I said amen and stood up, looking at my paper with the numbers 1-10 on it, I realized I had just completed my step #1 .... Wait..... WHAT?
WOOOOOW I had only been doing this for about 20 mins and I was already able to put my first number and it's action on the time line in it's rightful place of being the first thing started/completed. Now I just had to make sure I remembered to pray every morning before even opening my eyes so I don't step backwards. OK I can do that. Everything on that timeline must become a way of life to create that shift a little at a time. That was my focus for the next month. That's it, that is all I could even find energy for amongst all the other chaos happening around me ALLLLLL THE TIME. I was diligent. If for some reason I forgot to pray before getting out of bed, I prayed where ever I was the second I remembered. In the car, walking down the grocery isle, etc etc.
Now it's time for me to write the number two on my paper and what my next step needed to be. I began to ponder on that for a few days.
"What do I need to do to make my situation better by implementing a little thing?"
For you perhaps it's something else? Maybe your number one could be moving from the couch all day to a different chair that is closer to a window, or perhaps opening your curtains and blinds every single morning to allow light into your home. Maybe it's the choice to make your bed the second you get out of it every morning. It could be a decision to go outside and sit on the lawn or walk around your house once per day for just 5 mins. Maybe you're ready to start walking a mile per day or a block per day. Maybe starting a new book? There are so many variations of what tiny shift anyone of us can make to start that walk towards the end of the goal even if you're not exactly sure what your end goal needs to be... THAT'S OK. It will come.
Breaking the cycle of whatever you have been doing into something you want or wish you could be doing, is literally obtained by taking one tiny step at a time.
Remember those magical words on the days that you struggle. " It's The Little Things" " "It's The Little Things" "It's The Little Things"
Repeat that over and over. Whatever you choose to do, one step at a time is literally all you need to make something better today than what it was yesterday.
When our number one becomes a part of our life, and is automatically something you do each day as a part of your life style, you will know you're ready for the next step.
Step #2.... Perhaps you want to start gardening and dream of a green house with a beautiful crop of flowers and plants blooming inside, but you can't even afford a garden box let alone an entire greenhouse.
SOLUTION.... Buy one tomato plant or a pepper plant or sunflower plant, any edible plant will do. It must be edible. You can purchase little plants for $3 at Lowes or Homedepot right now. If you can't afford that ask a friend who gardens or get on facebook and ask if anybody has 1 extra tomato plant you could have. I promise EVERYBODY who gardens will be more than happy to give you a plant.
Care for that plant like it is your child. Read about it, tend to it, give it the nutrients it needs as you watch it grow. Give it a name, develope a certain happy tone of voice to talk in when you are touching it. Learn from any mistakes or struggles it has along the way so that no matter what, you've increased your knowledge and ability to grow one thing. Now you're one foot step closer to your end goal.
And there you have it.... Step #2, you are officially gardening. Yes, perhaps its on a small scale but remember........ "It's The Little Things"
Perhaps for #3 you want to learn to preserve something. Choose something easy like making jam. Even though most of us fail at making jam at-least once per season even when we're considered experienced, I promise it's not an actual fail because...... runny jam makes the BEST syrup for pancakes, waffles and ice cream during those chilly winter months inside.
Maybe all you can do is go pick some fresh fruit off a tree that you find for free on Facebook marketplace, or that a friend offers you from their own garden. If you have good intentions and focus on it, it will come to you. I promise.
Most things can be frozen and processed later. Wash those berries, slice the peaches putting them inside of the thick plastic freezer bags. Lay them out flat and set inside the freezer closing the door. Those frozen peaches or berries will make amazing healthy smoothies next winter. There you have it. You have now continued to move one more small step forward. You just preserved your very first harvest of something.
I'm certain by now your are picking up what I'm laying down so it's time for this blog to come to an end.
Whatever your small shift ends up being I wish you all the blessings, good energy and love I can send out. I know you can do this, and when you look back on all of your little things, I know You'll start seeing the shift happening right before your eyes that you didn't see before. You will literally be living in the middle of your dream for the future.
Love and Hugs, Wild Daisy.
